Sunday Spotlight: King's Rock Double Shot 1*M

IMG_5538.JPG

I am so happy to be able to publish this Sunday Spotlight because it means that Double Shot is confirmed bred! During her ultrasound, we were unable to find any kids but her blood work confirmed that she is expecting! The thought of not having this doe on our show string or contributing to our milk supply was not something I was looking forward to entertaining this year.

Double Shot is our favorite example of line breeding done right! At 26.58% inbred, she showcases such a refined power and elegance and is a real tribute to her sire (and grandsire) GCH Fox's Pride LFR Expresso +B.  She has two legs towards her championship, earning her restricted leg at the NJ State Fair as a dry yearling and her second leg at the 2016 Dutchess County Fair, beating her aunt Java Chip for Grand Champion!

In the fall of 2015, Double Shot fell seriously ill and we almost lost her.  As she recovered, she was so frail that we debated breeding her for 2016.  However, she regained her condition back and she was bred to CH Risin' Creek Wen Khaos Strikes.  This was a repeat breeding that resulted in King's Rock She's Something (AKA Poppy) who is one of (if not my best) 2016 doe kid.  She's Something was the 2016 ADGA Nationals 8th Place Intermediate Kid and won numerous Reserve Grand Champion ribbons in 2016.  Double Shot also went on to be one of our highest producing milkers, producing 1940 pounds of milk in 231 days! Her appraisal was not too shabby either, scoring 85 VV++ as a 3 year old, 2nd freshener with excellent scores in rump and rear legs! Like any typical King's Rock doe, she will only improve with age, adding more depth of body while still standing on great feet and legs!  I think 2017 and 2018 are going to be her break through years and have high hopes for her!

While Double Shot herself is no doubt a great doe, I think her greatest contribution to our herd is and will be her offspring! They are born STUNNING, and oh so correct!  If I could have a herd full of does like her daughter, I would be as happy as can be.  Her 2015 son is hard at work at a local dairy.  I just saw him the other day and even in rut, he is as big as their older Saanen buck and looks great!  He is really wide and even as a two year old, is already showing great body capacity.

For 2017, we have bred Double Shot to King's Rock Up All Knight.  With the Knight and Double Shot babies, we are expecting very similar kids to her other kiddings but with the addition of Madison's genetics! This should add some body capacity and also bring an excellent appraising udder into the pedigree while maintaining the width and size that she has!  Her first doe kid is staying at King's Rock but a 2nd doe kid reservation is available as well as 1st choice buck reservation.

Today's Sunday Spotlight is the first of our 2016 doe kids-King's Rock 3rd Times A Charm.  Charm is a doe that we waited three years for and she was well worth the wait! We bred her dam Carmel three years in a row to Striker to get a doe kid- hence 3rd Times A Charm!

We could not be more thrilled with this doe and are very anxiously awaiting her first freshening in April.  Throughout the year she has been a strong presence in the show ring, with many 1st places won this year, including at the 2016 Big E!  She was also the 10th place Intermediate Kid at the 2016 Nationals!

Charm is out of one of our most successful does, Carmel and reminds me very much of her dam and also her half sister Java.  She is a very wide doe with a beautiful set of legs and a gorgeous rump.  One judge commented that when she is set up, she looked almost perfect!

If Charm freshens with anything close to her dam's udder, we will be thrilled and you will be seeing a lot of her in the show ring! She will be the first Striker daughter to freshen in our herd and we are very excited to see what he throws as well! Charm, along with her paternal half sisters in the herd are all growing really well and we are expecting several to kid in 2017.

We have bred Charm to her paternal half-brother King's Rock Up All Knight and she is due in April, with confirmation via ultrasound.  Doe kid reservations are full.  We do not offer buck reservations on first fresheners but will evaluate Charm after she kids and will offer buck kids then (if she has any). While Charm does not have any reservations available, her dam-also bred to Knight, does have a 2nd doe kid and 1st and 2nd choice buck reservations available.
