King's Rock Sunday Spotlight 2018: GCH AKM-Farm Carmel 1*M

As we head into 2018, it's time to start our annual King's Rock Sunday Spotlight, where we highlight a particular doe in our herd, shining a spotlight on her achievements, her pedigree, and her offspring (including any upcoming ones).  Typically we go in order of due dates and feature all of our does, but this year our herd has grown too much (we are freshening 13 does) to feature everyone before kidding starts in March.  So we will be jumping around a bit with our does and seeing where the spotlight shines!  Regardless, be sure to check back every Sunday and see who the King's Rock spotlight is shining on that week!

It will come as no surprise that I HAD to kick off our King's Rock Sunday Spotlight with GCH AKM-Farm Carmel 1*M! Our coming 10-year-old is one of my all-time favorite does, and I am so happy to have her daughters, granddaughters, and a great-granddaughter in our herd.  Not only has she done amazing things in our herd, but she has continued to prove herself with her progeny.

This year, Carmel appraised 90 EEEE as a 9-year-old.  You still look at her and see a gorgeous doe.  I even forget how old she is as she walks across the pen.  She peaked at 9.7 pounds on milk test and during a limited lactation of 180 days, she still managed to milk 960 pounds with 52 pounds of butterfat.  Not too shabby for a 9-year-old! I wish I had been on milk test when she was in her milking prime to be able to really showcase what a milker she was! To get an idea of her true capacity, check out pictures on her page as well!

Carmel makes an appearance every once in a while in the ring, but she really does not like to be off the farm.  But fear not, her daughters are well equipped to fill her shoes.  Her five-year-old daughter, GCH King's Rock Java Chip 2*M, became a permanent champion in 2017 at the Dutchess County Fair, going Grand Champion and Best of Breed with 45 Nubians exhibited. She also appraised 89 EVEV this year, after kidding only a few weeks before.  Her other milking daughter, King's Rock 3rd Times A Charm 2*M (pending) is quite the milking yearling.  She was the 1st place Milking Yearling at the 2017 Big E! She has already produced 1380 pounds of milk and 95 pounds of butterfat at 238 days in milk. During her last two milk tests, her butterfat % have been 9.6% and 9.4%. We have a coming dry yearling King's Rock Knight Time Confit, who we just love as well as her granddaughters, King's Rock Double Shot 1*M and King's Rock Raindrops on Roses 3*M (Pending). Her great-granddaughter King's Rock She's Something, won her restricted leg at her first show out this year and was also Junior Champion at the 2017 Dutchess County Fair.

Carmel is confirmed pregnant to our newest herdsire Fox's Pride KPC Get Your Wings.  Get Your Wings, or GW is out of CH Fox's Pride Spring Bling and Kastdemur's Prince Carnaval.  His full sister is a permanent champion and his littermate sister was the 2017 BIG E! Grand Champion Nubian Junior Doe and Best Junior Doe in Show.  We have high hopes for these kids and I can't wait to see them in March!  With Carmel being 10 years old this year, I am retaining all does, but she still has buck reservations available.  Her kids will be G6S Normal by parentage.
